The Isle of Skye was everything I hoped and dreamed of. It was so beautiful!
On the map Eilene Donan looked really rather close to the Isle of Skye. It really wasn't. BUT it was very doable.
When I first saw the bridge, it caught my breathe. We have big bridges here. But this is a bridge in Scotland! The road to the Fairy Pools, where we were headed, is a VERY narrow road. Lots of it is one way at a time. There are so many pull outs, and everyone understood the assignment. Headed up, the left side of the road got very crumbly. I asked, several times, for Madeline to MOVE OVER towards the right. I was worried if she fell into one of those holes, the tire would be shredded. It didn't happen. She drove like a rockstar. You drive a long way to get to the trailhead of the Fairy pools. On the Isle, we passed MANY hikers and trailheads. I would go back and totally do a lot of hiking there. It is so beautiful.
Just a random, abandoned house. With just a little time and money, I think I could make it work.
Hiking trail.
A sign along the highway to the Fairy pools, marking the spot of a battle.
The Bridge to Skye
Madeline and Lorraine weren't hiking, so I didn't go all the way to the top, but I did go to the first 3 of the pools. I put my hands in them. Higher up, some people were swimming. It was NOT that warm. The water was very cold.
It was such a fun beautiful day. This is one of the places I would have liked to have a lot more time. There are many things to see on the Isle.
For the drive home, Mavis, the GPS had us going a totally different way back to Inverness. It was a 2-lane highway up over a pass in the middle of nowhere. The 3 of us agreed that it was good we were driving it in daylight. At night, I'm sure it's like bowling for deer.
When we got back to Inverness, we found some dinner and were ready to stretch out and not be sitting in the car for a bit.
Peace.
